The accidental voice-over guy.
“D.C.” Douglas didn’t set out to be a voice-over guy. He just didn’t read the fine print when he signed up for his first acting class – and it turned out to be for voice acting.
“One of the first things the teacher, Barbara Gill, said to me was: ‘You’ve got a beautiful voice; you should do voiceovers.’”
Another way to describe D.C.’s voice might be ‘infectiously friendly’, because after only a minute of talking with him, you begin to feel like he’s someone you know – a friend, even.
Flattered by his teacher’s words, D.C. continued with the voice classes, but focused most of his attention on what he’d really moved to Los Angeles for: film and TV. It only took six or seven years for him to nail down the essential difference between regular acting and voice acting:

The best of times
In every age, the most successful people are those who think: “This is the most exciting time to be alive.” Being excited about now means you are excited about the future and about the direction in which your life is taking you.
Today we live in the time of quantum physics, a difficult concept that makes the modern world possible: Your computer, cell phone and television are all possible because of principles uncovered by quantum physicists. But besides its technological rewards, quantum physics also leads us to view our world… our universe… from an almost mystical perspective.
At the submicroscopic level almost anything seems possible, even creating something from nothing. Imagine that you are a quantum particle. Now, create something.

The megaphone of your soul
Are you really speaking with your voice. On some level, many people realize, on a ‘who-am-I?’ level, that the voice they have doesn’t feel like the right voice. That’s important to realize, because your voice is the megaphone of your soul. The way you sound at any given time is who people think you are. When you have control of your voice, you have the power to control the impression you create. A motivated person can change her voice in just six or seven training sessions.”
Sandra McKnight, Voice Teacher, based in New Mexico, who found her voice – and her vocation – when the director at an audition told her: “If you want to work in this business, get rid of that voice!”

The value of voice power
As voice teacher Sandra McKnight says, elsewhere on this page: “Your voice is the megaphone of your soul.”
By extension, the more control you have over your voice, the more control you have over how people perceive you. Do people perceive you as vague, or forceful? Dishonest, or truthful? A follower, or a leader? A loser, or a winner? People will decide those things of you within moments of hearing you speak.
As a voice over artist, I know that I’m always assessing people based on how they project themselves through their voices. And I’ve come to believe that almost everybody could benefit by learning more about how to control their voice – to project power, love, concern, enthusiasm – nuanced to each occasion.

11 Surefire ways to get better results from your marketing without raising costs (you may even lower them!)
IF WHAT FOLLOWS seems like so much commonsense; remember that marketing is 90 per cent commonsense. Everything else – database technology, relationship marketing, statistical analysis, search engine optimization, other special tools, and even creative– sits on that base of commonsense.

On Hold Marketing increases Sales!
Imagine this: A customer visits your office and is shown to a room where he or she is asked to wait a few moments. Now imagine that once they are seated, the lights are turned off and they're left to wait in the dark. Or worse, the room is lit but the walls are covered with posters advertising your competitor’s products!
Sound ridiculous? It happens every day when your customers calls are put on hold and must endure listening to a local radio station, or in most cases, nothing.
